Theater History
The Aloni Theater in Agios Georgios Nileas of Pelion was founded in 1995. The Theater was an abandoned threshing floor of Agios Georgios Nileas in Pelion, where, on the initiative of the pioneering artist GiorgosTriantafyllou and a group of friends, a beautiful theater was created in 1995 in the nature of Pelion with view of Pagasitikos gulf and excellent acoustics.
The broader purpose of researching the work of G. Triantafyllou is the highlighting of the human imprint on objects or places of historical importance and their transformation into works of art or places of culture.
It functioned initially as a community theater and later as a municipal theater of the Municipality of South Pelion, while since 2012 it has continued its remarkable course under the management of the municipal non-profit company “FRIENDS OF THE ALONI THEATER“.Volunteering is one of the central axes around which the theater’s activities move as a whole. It is carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of of Culture and is registered in the register of cultural institutions of Greece.
The Aloni Theater is the only stone-built ancient Greek-style theater in the prefecture of Magnesia and every year it attracts audiences from all over the world. Every August it hosts many carefully curated theatrical and musical events, ancient drama seminars, piano festivals, etc. as a result of which it has been characterized by the press and other cultural bodies as “the Little Epidaurus of Pelion”.
A significant part of the theater’s operation is due to the active participation of volunteers in collaboration with the founding team (under the guidance of the artistic director, Mr. George Triantafyllou).

Volunteerism, as a theory and practice, has been one of the central axes around which the activities of the Aloni Theater revolve throughout all these years of operation.

Request for Financial Assistance - CROWDFUNDING
In 1997, an amount was approved for the Aloni Theater and 80% of the stone-built bleachers were built (capacity 300 seats instead of 400) and since then it has received no further financial support even though it is the only open-air theater of the ancient Greek type.
The desire of the friends of the theater is the financial support for the construction and completion of the unfinished bleachers (100 seats) as they have remained since 1997. This project is very important to be carried out to ensure the spectators from a possible accident to make the access of the disabled easier and to make the operation of the Theater safe.
